National Nanotechnology Day Celebration 2024

October 19, 2024: 9AM - 3PM in the Duffield Hall atrium

Join us in the Duffield Atrium as we celebrate National Nanotechnology Day. This event is free and open to the public and will feature a wide variety of hands-on STEM activities for all ages.

  • 10:30 AM - Tompkins county poet laureate Janie Bibbie will present a poem to commemorate the event
  • Try on a cleanroom suit at our "cleanroom selfie station"
  • Learn about exciting new materials and play with shape memory alloy wire
  • Explore the world of photolithography (printing with light); and create your own design using ultraviolet light
  • Make your own wearable ultraviolet light detector
  • Operate our portable Scanning Electron Microscope and see objects at 10,000x magnification
  • See our tiny state-of-the-art nanorobots in action!
  • Learn about electrospinning and sample some cotton candy!
  • Join us for live virtual tours of the CNF cleanroom and the CHESS particle accelerator facility
    • 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM - live tours of the CNF cleanroom facility in Phillips 101
    • 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM - live tours of the CHESS/CLASSE particle accelerator facility in Phillips 101
  • Try our new Virtual Reality cleanroom experience
  • Conduct experiments using vacuum and try a vacuum marshmallow!
  • Pick up free copies of our Nanooze kid's magazine
  • Visit with our educational and industry partners to learn about exciting careers in nanotechnology
  • Meet with our friends from the MoST and ScienCenter
  • Check out the Cornell Engineering Project Teams area and see what our engineers have created
  • Grab nanoscience experiments that you can do at home!
  • The Ithaca ScienCenter will be giving away a one-year family membership!

Parking and Directions

Parking is available at no charge in the Hoy Rd Parking Garage located at 167 Hoy Rd. Enter the garage from Hoy Rd or from Campus Rd. Then proceed on foot with a short walk to Duffield Hall as indicated on the below map.
