2015 NNIN REU Convocation at Cornell University

Dear 2015 NNIN REU Community:
The network-wide convocation will be held at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. The convocation officially starts on Sunday, August 9th, with a Pizza Party & Welcome, starting at 6:00 p.m., in the Hans Bethe House dining room. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will be filled with intern presentations, panel discussions, a poster session, and of course, good food, good company, and a few fun adventures. Everyone departs on Thursday, August 13th.
Check here often for more detailed information on the convocation as it becomes available, but please note now that each NNIN REU and iREG intern will have twelve minutes on the schedule for their presentation (one minute for set up, nine minutes to present, two minutes for Q&A). The NNIN iREU Interns will give a group presentation guided by Dr. Rathbun.
There are three airport options for getting to Ithaca:
ITH, Ithaca (http://www.flyithaca.com/)
The Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport is just fifteen minutes away from Cornell campus. A taxi or ground transport will cost about $15 one-way.
ELM, Elmira (http://www.chemungcounty.com/index.asp?pageId=577)
The Elmira Corning Regional Airport is 50 minutes away from Cornell campus. A taxi or ground transport will cost about $95-$130 one-way.
SYR, Syracuse (http://www.syrairport.org/)
The Syracuse Hancock International Airport is an hour and ten minutes away from Cornell campus. A taxi or ground transport will cost about $85-$155 one-way, $130 round-trip (via IAL, below).
Ithaca Airline Limousine (IAL) (http://www.transportationsithaca.com/) is the typical way to get from any airport to Cornell campus and vice versa. But there is also Ithaca Dispatch (http://www.ithacataxi.biz/), which is our local taxi service. They list their prices for out of town trips also.
All of the 2015 NNIN Interns will be housed on campus, in the Hans Bethe House and or the Keeton House. Rooms have been reserved for those who need to travel to Ithaca on Saturday, August 8th, through to departure on Thursday, August 13th. Check-in for the interns does not start until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday and rooms MUST be vacated by 9:30 a.m. on Thursday. (Melanie-Claire will reserve the rooms for all the interns.)

The 2015 NNIN REU Site Staff will stay at the University Inn Best Western. Again, rooms have been reserved for those who need to travel to Ithaca on
Saturday, August 8th, through to departure on Thursday, August 13th. The rooms are $149 a night for Saturday, $129 Sunday-Thursday, self-pay. For reservations, call the Best Western directly at 1-607-272-6100 and ask for a room in the "NNIN REU Convocation"
AGAIN -- ALL ROOMS MUST BE VACATED BY 9:30 A.M. ON THURSDAY!
FOOD & REFRESHMENTS
Vegetarian options will always be available at every meal, but if you have other dietary concerns, please contact Melanie-Claire as soon as possible. [email]
Breakfast will be on your own BEFORE each day's events. Interns will receive breakfast vouchers to use at Becker House, next door to their dorm. Staff receive complimentary breakfast at Best Western.
Lunch menus will vary each day, as will dinners. If the meal is on the schedule, it is a mandatory group event! Please note everyone is on their own for dinner on Wednesday (restaurant recommendations and maps will be provided).
Note also that we will not be providing bottled water or hot beverages during the convocation.  Everyone will receive a 2015 NNIN REU water bottle on Sunday to use for the duration.  The convocation is being held in Duffield Hall where Mattin's Cafe resides. Coffee, tea and hot cocoa can be purchased there for a reasonable price! Also, coffee will be available at the breakfast venues, so stock up there... Finally, for specialty coffees, there is a Gimme Coffee in Gates Hall and a limited menu of specialty beverages at Sage Hall, both of which are an easy one block walk from Duffield.
PLEASE NOTE! There are TWO bottled-water-enabled water fountains, one down in Duffield Atrium and one up on the second floor of Phillips.
